Ancillary Species
DASAS ROUGH STALKED MEADOW GRASS
Common in meadows and pastures of lowlands. Makes low vigorous growth and grows later in the year than Ryegrass.
EVORA SMOOTH STALKED MEADOW GRASS
Common in natural grassland, persistent with strong rhizomes and erect leafy shoots. Good early spring growth, tolerates very dry conditions and because of its rhizomes, regenerates very quickly.
MAXIMA CREEPING RED FESCUE
Used in the preparation of low digestibility pastures for hill land and horse pastures. Tolerates surface water and is productive on poor quality soil.
CRESTED DOGSTAIL
Suitable for sheep and horse grazing. Withstands drought and cold and is useful on low fertility soils. Stays green during winter.
HARD FESCUE
A densely tufted perennial, drought resistant useful species for well drained and sandy soils. Used in mixtures where low quality forage is required.
CHEWINGS FESCUE
A densely tufted perennial used in scenarios where a dense “bottom” is required in a sward such as horse pastures and exercise areas. Drought tolerant.
MEADOW FOXTAIL
A loosely tufted perennial plant found in old pastures especially meadows. It commences growth very early in the year and provides good palatable forage for grazing and hay making.
SWEET VERNAL GRASS
A tufted perennial plant. Early flowering and strongly scented with Coumarin. Found in old pastures and meadow land favoured by those looking for scented hay crops. Not really a grazing grass.
