Organic Grass Mixtures

This section covers the specific need for organic food products and the role of organic grass seed mixtures in this sector. Since its inception, DLF Trifolium has led the market and provided grass seed mixtures containing a high proportion of listed varieties that not only match but surpass the criteria necessary to meet official standards. These varieties have been proven over a number of years to be well suited for use in organic situations.

Legumes play a very important role in the performance of these mixtures. It is vital the correct species of grass and clover are mixed at the optimum rates to ensure the right balance is achieved and no individual species is allowed to dominate to the detriment of the sward. To maximise the output of these mixtures it is important to pay attention to the requirements of the soil. Regular soil analysis should be an on going operation to ensure the balance of nutrients is preserved so the best results are obtained from your swards.

Extensive trial work on independent farms and DLF Trifolium’s experimental farm at Didbrook near Cheltenham, have enabled the best mixtures to be available. All the current mixtures contain 65% organic seed to meet the standards set by the certifying authorities.

OrganoMax Short Term

This is a very high yielding two to three year ley containing Hybrid and Italian Ryegrass and Red Clover. This combination maximises the dry matter quality of the Hybrid Ryegrass and the high protein content of the Red Clover.

• Excellent disease resistance for good forage quality under low input systems
• Erect growth habit allows clover to thrive and eases the cutting process thus preventing soil intrusion into the cut forage
• Optimum timing for first cut at 67D is circa 18th - 21st May depending on site
