DESCRIPTION
A Wild Flower mixture of native origin as sown by the professionals. For optimum appearance, and a greater ratio of flowers to grass, use sowing rate as directed.
SUITABILITY
Ideal for the gardener who is looking to create a Wild Flower meadow and attract animal life.
WILD FLOWER SPECIES USED
Birdsfoot Trefoil, Black Medick, Black Knapweed, Common Vetch, Meadow Buttercup, Oxeye Daisy, Ribwort Plantain, White Campion, White Clover, Self Heal, Yarrow, Musk Mallow and Red Campion.
GRASS SPECIES USED
Browntop Bent, Crested Dogstail, Meadow Fescue, Red Fescue, Smooth Stalked Meadow Grass and Yorkshire Fog.
SOWING DATES
Sowing can take place throughout most of the year, providing a good tilth can be prepared, however the months of March/April and August/September are generally the most suitable.
SOWING RATES
For mixtures with grass sow at a rate of 5g per sq. metre. For pure Wild Flower mixtures sow at a rate of 0.5 - 1g per sq. metre.
CUTTING HEIGHT
New meadow:
When sward reaches 15cm (6in) high, cut for the first time, removing all the cuttings.
First year:
Cut every 2 months or when the sward reaches 15cm (6in), removing all the cuttings.
Future years:
First cut in March/April to 7.5cm (3in) with a second cut to 7.5cm (3in) in August/October removing all the cuttings after each cut.
