Meadow Fescue

Festuca pratensis

Meadow Fescue is a very persistent grass. It does not require high temperatures for active growth and is very Winter hardy. It appreciates high soil moisture content but can be grown successfully on a wide range of soils. Early Spring growth yield is good and regrowth consists mainly of leafy shoots ideal for forage use.

  • Good Winter hardiness and Summer production
  • Good performance in adverse soil conditions
  • Especially suited to conservation and a good companion to Timothy
  • Wide leaves produce high quality hay
  • Slower to establish than Ryegrass but very palatable with good digestibility
  • Can out-yield Ryegrass in low fertility or dry areas such as hills or wet lowlands
