Meadow Fescue is a very persistent grass. It does not require high temperatures for active growth and is very Winter hardy. It appreciates high soil moisture content but can be grown successfully on a wide range of soils. Early Spring growth yield is good and regrowth consists mainly of leafy shoots ideal for forage use.
- Good Winter hardiness and Summer production
- Good performance in adverse soil conditions
- Especially suited to conservation and a good companion to Timothy
- Wide leaves produce high quality hay
- Slower to establish than Ryegrass but very palatable with good digestibility
- Can out-yield Ryegrass in low fertility or dry areas such as hills or wet lowlands
