DLF turf grass ready for the World Cup final

The World Cup is about to enter the final round. France and Belgium compete for a place in the final on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday we can look forward to the battle between England and Croatia

The losers will play the third place on Saturday and the winners meet in the final on Sunday. The two stadiums, where it all will be settled, are the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow and Saint Petersburg Stadium. The two stadiums will host seven matches in the World Cup finals.

Luzhniki stadium were installed with a hybrid pitch in 2016, and since repeatedly overseeded with turf perennial ryegrass. The hybrid system enhances the grass carpet and the pitch becomes more durable at ground level and easier to keep even. Players experience the pitch as a natural pitch, as the surface feels and plays like natural grass.
By 2018, Luzhniki has used Expressmaster 4, a special turf mixture from DLF with the strong tetraploid 4turf® varieties and the best diploid sports turf ryegrasses.

Saint Petersburg Stadium was installed with a hybrid pitch from Denmark in January 2018 followed by several overseeding’s during spring with a similar turf ryegrass mixture as in Moscow.

When playing seven World Cup matches within a month, one should not make compromises on the grass. Therefore, professional groundsmen are in process of repairing small patches in the lawn immediately after each match, ensuring that the grass plants are established close to quickly make the pitch ready for the next game.
