007XL™

007XL™ Creeping Bentgrass

The next generation 'Super Bent' for elite golf courses

Dr. Hurley of Rutgers University is known as the bentgrass doctor and has been breeding improved bentgrasses since 1982 which include the advanced generation variety 007XL.

007XL Creeping Bentgrass has the greatest opportunity for success in cool season climates for grassing greens, tees and fairways. Now designated as a class of “Super BentsTM” these varieties will produce a turf showing greater disease resistance / lower fungicide use, finer leaves, a denser turf that is more tolerant to close mowing.

This variety delivers an ultra-fine, medium dark green leaf texture, providing a premium visual appearance with consistent colour throughout the season. Exceptionally high turf density creates smooth, tight putting surfaces while helping to naturally resist Poa annua ingress, maintaining surface purity over time.

Broad disease resistance offers reliable protection against key turf threats including Dollar Spot, Brown Patch, Anthracnose, and both Pink & Grey Snow Mold. Designed to perform at close mowing heights, 007XL excels on greens, tees, and fairways, combining elite playing quality with strong wear tolerance under intensive use.

Cold weather active growth ensures reliable performance with no Autumn purpling, while advanced summer stability prevents puffy or thatchy surface development. Rapid recovery from ball marks & divots helps keep playing surfaces truer for longer, reducing disruption & maintenance inputs. Built on advanced genetics, this cultivar represents the most modern generation within the Super Bents™, setting a new benchmark for performance & consistency.

Advantages

  1. Cut fungicide use by ~50% vs. older bent grasses, thanks to built in disease resistance.
  2. Uniform, high quality turf for superior putting quality & smoother ball roll.
  3. Extended playing season from cold weather vigour & stable colour.
  4. Resilient under traffic & low heights, ideal for intensively used greens, tees & fairways.

Benefits

  1. Lower operating costs through reduced fungicides & overall inputs.
  2. Better player experience - faster, smoother, more consistent surfaces.
  3. More rounds, more revenue from longer seasons of play.
  4. Sustainable management aligned with low input turf practices.

Maintenance Tips & Mowing Height

  • Start mowing at 5–6 mm about 10–14 days after germination.
  • Gradually reduce height in small increments every few days as turf density improves.
  • Greens: Maintain at down to 3 mm.
  • Tees & Approaches: 6–9 mm.
  • Fairways: 9–12 mm.
  • Combine mowing with light, frequent topdressing to maintain smoothness.
Use rolling to enhance green speed without lowering height excessively.
