PLUS grasses - better field value

PLUS-grasses from DLF is one of the great success stories of modern grass-breeding science. Depending on the variety and the growing conditions, PLUS-grasses provides from 5% to 25% more forage, and one to two years' more persistency.

Depending on the variety, PLUS-grassess withstand colder winter, drought, and disease - it produces a higher output, per hectare and offers a better feed value compared to tall fescue.

More than the sum of its parts

PLUS-grasses is a highly successful cross between a fescue and a ryegrass. These type of grasses are also well known under the umbrella; Festulolium. It works because the hybrid performs better than its individual components.

At DLF, we have many decades' worth of experience in developing varieties of festulolium. As a result, we now hold an exclusive portfolio of PLUS-grasses of different types and our research continues, of course, as we strive to improve forage yield and quality under a wide range of climates.

Two types of PLUS-grasses

PLUS-grasses are split into two main groups: ryegrass-plus and tall fescue-plus.

This type resemble Italian ryegrass but with much better persistency. Seeding vigour is in top and with very early spring growth and a high yield during season - It produces a higher yield and has better stress tolerance and persistency. It is suited for grazing and cutting and can substitute Italian ryegrass, hybrid ryegrass and perennial ryegrass in a mixture and increase the preformance of the mixtures.

This type resemble tall fescue but with much higher digestibility. They combine attributes of tall fescue with the high feeding quality and rapid establishment of ryegrass. It is mainly characterized by high seeding vigor, early spring growth, high yield and very high digestibility. It is ideally suited to dry or stressed environments where yield and persistency are the primary drivers. It can be used as a direct replacement for tall fescue in medium- and long-term mixtures where it improves the feeding value.
