Squirrel-Tail Fescue

Squirrel-tail Fescue - Vulpia bromoides is an annual grass.

It is a fine leaved grass, usually asscociated with dry places and is abundant in the British Isles, commonly found on heathland and on open stoney ground

It is also commonly found throughout Europe.

As the common name implies Vulpia is very similar in appearance to the Festuca genus and is, by some, considered to be a subgroup main fescue genus.

In a pure fine fescue sward it is virtually indestinguishable from the other species and being an annual it will not survive under the regular mowing of amenity turf.
